Museum Statement on COVID-19

Dear Museum Community,

As you likely know, there are now multiple confirmed cases of COVID-19, more commonly known as “coronavirus,” among the residents of Cuyahoga County.

The Museum’s absolute highest priority is the health and safety of our guests, our staff, and our volunteers. We are taking every necessary precaution to prevent, manage, and mitigate the possibility of the virus spreading onto our campus.

We are currently following CDC guidelines in monitoring the health of all Museum staff and volunteers, as well as the health of those who are in close regular contact with them. We have operational plans in place to ensure individuals who display symptoms or have close contacts displaying symptoms do not enter the Museum.

Further, we are monitoring very closely the potential spread of the virus throughout Northeast Ohio, and are postponing all public events and meetings through June 30, 2020. In addition, all planetarium shows will be cancelled through the end of the month. Please stay tuned to our Museum website and social channels for up-to-the-minute updates.

Lastly, as an institution that places human health as a core pillar of our research and education programs, we want to do our part in providing resources and context to the general public. Our goal is that the public better understand the virus, its symptoms, and how to best prevent its spread, as well as provide a rational and practical approach to the dangers this virus poses.

With that in mind, I invite all of you to consult resources including the CDC and World Health Organization. Further, the Museum’s educators and curators will be producing content across our website and social media platforms that provide context around this virus and its effects, as well as answer some of the most frequently asked questions during this outbreak.

Thank you for your time and attention, and I wish you all well. We will provide updates and educational content as this situation continues to develop.
