Dr. Evalyn Gates to Speak at NASA Glenn
Executive Director & CEO Dr. Evalyn Gates is scheduled to speak at NASA Glenn Research Center as part of their monthly GRC Connections program for employees on Thursday, October 20. Her talk is titled "Einstein’s Telescope and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History."
One of the most ancient questions of science—What is the Universe made of?—is also one of the most exciting. Data from a wealth of cosmological observations point to a Universe filled with dark matter and dark energy—strange and exotic new substances that cannot be seen with even our most powerful telescopes. Instead, cosmologists are using the warps and dimples in Einstein’s audacious description of space-time as giant “cosmic lenses” that allow us to probe the dark Universe in an entirely new way.
It is also time to think about science education in a radical new way and The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is in the midst of a major transformation and expansion to redefine the role of a natural history museum in the 21st century. Building on the strength of our research and collections, we are creating state-of-the-art exhibits and education spaces that will bring science to life through immersive and interactive experiences; showcase the latest scientific discoveries; offer opportunities to work alongside our scientists; and invite visitors and students to join the adventure of science and discovery.
