CLEVELAND—January 12, 2023—This summer, on-site summer camps return to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Registration for two unique camp experiences is now open to the public. The Museum is offering before- and after-care and need-based scholarships. Campers are encouraged either to bring their lunch each day or plan to purchase food in the Museum’s new café. Details, registration links, and scholarship applications are available at CMNH.org/summer-camps.
TWO UNIQUE SUMMER CAMP OFFERINGS
Make Your Own Museum Camp (Rising 5th–8th graders)
During this weeklong experience, campers will meet with the Museum’s Exhibits team, get up close to real Museum displays and artifacts, and even design and create museum displays of their own—keepsakes from a summer that promises to be unforgettable. Additionally, students will work throughout the week to build the skills and knowledge to interpret their creations. Hands-on activities—such as creating a cast and mold of a real specimen—will push campers to use their academic and artistic talents to bring items from the Museum’s collection to life. At the end of camp, families will be invited on a celebratory “field trip” to visit the many mini museums crafted over the week—giving kids the opportunity to act as expert guides! After camp is over, students will also have the chance to return to the Museum and present their creations to guests in the Museum’s Current Science space.
COST: Museum members: $395; nonmembers: $470
TIME: Daily, 9am–4pm
WEEKS: June 26, July 24
Circle Sampler Camp: Curated Curiosity!
Campers will spend an exciting week exploring the scientific, artistic, musical, theatrical, and cultural institutions around University Circle. Hosted by the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, this unique camp will center around the theme Curated Curiosity: What does it mean to be curious, and how can we better ignite our curiosity? The Museum’s partners at the other amazing institutions in the Circle will share their exclusive resources to enrich your child’s understanding of the world. About the Cleveland Museum of Natural History Transformation Project
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History broke ground in June 2021 on a $150 million transformation project, which features an expansion, a complete reimagining of its campus and all its exhibits, and the addition of new public spaces. Pioneering a new model for natural history museums, this bold reinvention will place visitors at the center of the Museum experience—allowing them to better understand their connection with the natural world and the relevance of science to their daily lives. The transformed space will reflect the Museum’s world-class assets while serving as a trusted community resource that prioritizes accessibility and engagement. The Transforming the World of Discovery campaign has raised more than $122 million for this project, which will expand the Museum's building and outdoor visitor areas to more than 375,000 square feet. The Museum appreciates the generous support from community members, corporations, foundations, and government grants that has helped to make this transformation a reality.
