The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is proud to announce the new seasonal extravaganza, Holocene Halloween: A Celebration for the Ages. During the celebration, inspired by the current geological epoch (or period of time), the Museum’s scientists, researchers, and educators will explore all of the festive, fun, and fascinating ways that science intersects with the holiday.
“Although this year may feel a little different due to the effects of COVID-19, Holocene Halloween is a safe and fun way to restore some positivity during these trying times,” says Sonia Winner, the Museum’s President & CEO. “We’re excited to celebrate this special season with our community in all new ways.”
Virtual offerings include online trivia games and live lectures with the Museum’s experts. Curious minds of all ages will enjoy Fossils for Kids on Wednesday, October 21, with Dr. Caitlin Colleary, Assistant Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology. For lifelong learners, the Museum offers Mystical Bar Trivia on Tuesday, October 20, and a hypothetical look at Undead Science with Dr. Nicole Burt, Curator of Human Health and Evolutionary Medicine, on Tuesday, October 27.
For the adventurous fall enthusiasts, the Museum will host a Spooky Bug Hunt for kids on Sunday, October 18, and an evening hike at Blue Heron Farm on Tuesday, October 27. Those who visit the Museum between October 21 and November 1, 2020, will be delighted by fall- and Halloween-themed planetarium shows and live animal encounters. What’s more, the Museum invites guests of all ages to come wearing costumes between October 21 and November 1, 2020*. On Saturdays and Sunday afternoons throughout the program, they can even have their photo taken in front of a special Halloween scene by the Museum’s multimedia professional and take home a complimentary 5x7 print.
“At the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, a socially-distant Halloween doesn’t mean all tricks and no treats!” says Winner. “Whether you’re more comfortable celebrating from home or eager to venture out and about, we have a little something for you.”
