NASA Astronaut Douglas H. Wheelock Kicks Off Explorer Series

Museum Presents Out-of-This-World Lecture

CLEVELAND—October 16, 2023—NASA Astronaut Douglas H. Wheelock launches the new season of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Series. With excitement growing for the total solar eclipse in April of 2024, Wheelock will share his own experiences regarding the excitement of exploring the final frontier. Wheelock will discuss life aboard the International Space Station, as well as some of NASA’s current projects.
 
Wheelock’s career began in with the United States Army, from which he retired as a Colonel. After being selected by NASA in 1988, Wheelock went on to fly on STS-120 in 2007, a Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station. Additionally, he served as flight engineer for Expedition 24 and commander for Expedition 25, both long-duration missions to the International Space Station that took place in 2010. Throughout his career, Wheelock has accumulated more than 175 days in space.

On Wednesday, October 25, doors open at 5:30pm and the lecture starts at 6:30pm. An autograph opportunity is available after the lecture. During this event, light snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase at Origins Café and special-event parking rates apply.

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s Explorer Series features lectures by acclaimed scientists, authors, and experts from around the world.
