Devonian fish of the Cleveland Shale
The Cleveland region preserves some of the best Late Devonian marine fossils in the world, including the plate-headed placoderm fish such as Dunkleosteus; and some of the earliest, best preserved sharks, including Cladoselache and Ctenacanthus. The Department of Vertebrate Paleontology continues the Museum's long history of collecting and researching the world class specimens from the Cleveland shale, with a particular emphasis on the systematics and functional morphology of the arthrodires and sharks.
