Herbarium Collection & Database
The Museum’s regional herbarium, coupled with its strong rare plant and natural area inventory program, has produced a vital conservation data resource. The herbarium houses more than 75,000 plant specimens. Although it contains specimens from nearly every state in the U.S. and many from around the world, the main focus of research is northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania flora.
The Museum Herbarium is open by appointment to visitors and qualified researchers for non-commercial purposes. In some instances, specimens may be loaned for research.
To make an appointment or to request herbarium record data, contact the
Herbarium Coordinator.
Moss database
The collection consists mostly of moss specimens, liverworts and a few lichens. To arrange a visit or to request data, contact the
Herbarium Coordinator.
Seed Share Program
Seed Share is housed in the former library card catalog cabinet in the Museum’s
Harold T. Clark Library. It contains seeds of native plants, as well as herbs, vegetables, fruits and cultivated garden flowers. Seed Share is free to Museum visitors during regular library hours.
