Volunteers in the Ornithology Department help prepare bird specimens for the research collection. They typically meet weekly.
The Museum receives many bird carcasses—primarily from window collisions during migration through the Lights Out Cleveland program, as well as from rehabilitation centers such as Lake Erie Nature and Science Center—and these are turned into specimens. They may be prepared as study skins or skeletons.
A smaller group of volunteers also helps with cataloging, databasing, and photographing specimens.
