OHIO ANIMAL ADAPTATIONS: TEETH, BEAKS, AND FURS  |  LEVEL: K–3rd

All living things require the same basic needs in order to survive, but each species has unique adaptations to help them. Students will use animal beaks, skulls, and furs to figure out how local Ohio animals get their food in the wild. By comparing many Museum specimens, students will be able to identify the characteristics that help each species eat without being eaten themselves.

TEETH TELLING TALES: FOSSILS UNCOVER ANCIENT ECOSYSTEMS  |  LEVEL: 3rd–8th

Join us as we replicate a day of research with Dr. Darin Croft, paleontologist with Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Specializing in mammals that went extinct millions of years ago, Dr. Croft’s work launches this lab experience by illustrating how careful measurements of fossil teeth can help scientists build a picture of entire ancient ecosystems. Using real diagnostic equipment and casts of specimens found during recent South American fieldwork, your amateur paleobiologists will learn how ancient teeth tell tales!

BODYWORKS: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN INTERNAL ANATOMY  |  LEVEL: 4th–6th

What does a real heart look like? And how does it team up with our brain, muscles, bones, and lungs? This program uses preserved specimens and anatomical models to teach students about the organization of the human body. Learn the structures and functions of several major organ systems and see how they interact to keep the whole human organism alive.
