Explore the Earth's origin, history and structure

About the Society

The Cleveland Geological Society was founded in 1957. Membership is open to people interested in all aspects of geology. Monthly meetings feature talks on diverse topics, such as the geology of far-flung places, explanations of local points of interest and paleontology. Members and visiting geologists are invited to speak. The society also holds field trips to local sites and occasionally more distant locales.

The Cleveland Geological Society helps support a number of Museum programs. Among these are the summer Kirtlandia Research Internship Program and Archaeology & Earth Science Day in October.

Meetings

Regular meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month from September through May (except October) at 7pm in Classroom A on the Museum's lower level, unless otherwise noted. Guests are welcome. Anyone may bring up to 6 rock, mineral, or fossil specimens to meetings, and members present will try to identify them or point to other resources for identification. If the Museum is closed due to bad weather or other circumstances, any Cleveland Geological Society meetings and all other events are cancelled for that day.
