Think & Drink: Extinction Tackles Current Threats
This week, as we celebrate extinct species of the past during our monthly Think & Drink event, we also somberly consider the recent natural events putting today’s species in danger of disappearing. The latest reports on the Australian wildfires estimate that over 1 billion animals have been lost to the disaster. Beloved species like koalas and kangaroos have lost their homes to the fires, and an untold number of species currently unknown to science are also at risk, including a newly identified species of native dung beetle discovered by the Museum’s Associate Curator of Invertebrate Zoology, Dr. Nicole Gunter.
In light of these events, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History has decided to raise money in support of the wildlife rescue efforts of NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc. (WIRES). Think & Drink attendees will have the option to contribute by participating in a special raffle. They’ll have the opportunity to enter for the chance to win canvas paintings by the Museum’s much-loved animal ambassadors; one-of-a-kind animal ambassador portraits; hand-crafted earrings featuring quills from our porcupine, Lancelot; various items from the Museum Store; and two exclusive behind-the-scenes wildlife encounters (a meet-and-greet with Lancelot and an otter feeding and training session). One hundred percent of raffle ticket sales will go toward WIRES. In addition, 20% of proceeds from drinks purchased during the event will be donated to the cause.
We invite you to join our cause during this night of fun-filled learning. Purchase your Think & Drink: Extinction
