Executive Director Speaks at Education Conference


Dr. Evalyn Gates, Executive Director & CEO of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, will be a panelist at the Private Schools with Public Purpose Conference, presented in partnership with Hathaway Brown School and University School, on Friday, March 11.

The panel, titled “Museums and Schools as Partners: The Innovative Role of Cleveland’s Cultural Institutions,” takes place at 1:20pm. Dr. Gates, with directors from Great Lakes Science Center and Cleveland Botanical Garden, will discuss collaborative relationships and creative programming designed to address educational imperatives in the city of Cleveland.
Dr. Gates is a physicist and author who has served as the Museum’s director since 2010. She holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Case Western Reserve University and in 2009 published her first book, Einstein’s Telescope: The Hunt for Dark Matter and Dark Energy in the Universe. Her most recent research has focused on various aspects of dark matter and searching for ancient stellar fossils in the form of white dwarfs. Dr. Gates is a strong advocate for the advancement of women and minorities in the physical sciences and has written several articles and presented talks on the topic of women in physics.
