Neil deGrasse Tyson Narrates New Planetarium Show

A new show narrated by renowned Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is coming to Nathan and Fannye Shafran Planetarium Saturday, November 21! Dark Universe takes viewers on an extraordinary journey from beyond the borders of the Milky Way Galaxy to our own backyard in the Solar System. Along the way, Dark Universe plunges into some of the deepest mysteries of our known Universe, shedding light on unprecedented cosmic discoveries.

Featuring exquisite renderings of enigmatic cosmic phenomena, seminal scientific instruments, and spectacular scenes in deep space, Dark Universe celebrates the pivotal discoveries that have led to greater knowledge of the structure and history of the Universe and our place in it.

Curated by Dr. Mordecai-Mark Mac Low from the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) and directed by Carter Emmart, the director of AMNH’s astrovisualization, Dark Universe runs 24 minutes long. “This show,” said Mac Low, “is not just about what we know about the Universe, but how we know it so well. The major accomplishment of the last decade in cosmology has been going from rather general knowledge about the Universe to knowing its properties within a few percent. The astonishing result is that the Universe has turned out to be a very odd place, like nothing anybody ever expected.” The show is produced by Vivian Trakinski with script by Timothe Ferris and score by Robert Miller.

The film will run weekdays at 2:30pm, Saturdays at noon and 4pm, and Sundays at 4pm. Shows are $5 per ticket with general admission. Member tickets are always free!

Dark Universe was developed by the American Museum of Natural History, New York, in collaboration with the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco, and GOTO INC, Tokyo, Japan.
