Prestigious Group Brings Leading Citizens Together

Sonia Winner Elected to 50 Club

CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY PRESIDENT & CEO SONIA WINNER ELECTED TO THE 50 CLUB OF CLEVELAND

Prestigious Group Brings Leading Citizens Together to Explore Pressing Issues

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s President & CEO, Sonia Winner, has been elected to the 50 Club of Cleveland, a nonprofit group dedicated to furthering the understanding of pressing local, regional, and national issues through dialogue and debate. The group consists of leading citizens—including business executives, lawyers, and other experts—from across the region. It operates with the goal of having candid, off-the-record discussions about challenges and opportunities facing the community.

“Sonia’s involvement in the 50 Club of Cleveland will not only enrich her work with the Museum and have a positive impact on the wider community, but will also advance our institution’s focus on fostering collaboration across the region,” says Jon Grimm, the Museum’s Chair of the Board of Directors.

The 50 Club of Cleveland is an invitation-only organization that has been helping to bring together thought leaders since 1939. Personal qualifications are given the most consideration when members are admitted to the group. Winner has a rich portfolio of career experiences and service on several professional boards.

In 2018, Winner became the 10th director of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. She has since led the Museum’s transformation project to completely reimagine its campus and visitor experience in a way that highlights the interconnectedness of all life on Earth. The pioneering reinvention will serve as a new model for natural history museums globally.

Prior to her arrival at the Museum, Winner served in leadership roles at Columbia University, culminating in a promotion to Vice President for University Development. She also spent a decade serving in associate dean roles at the Weatherhead School of Management and the Law School at Case Western Reserve University. Before entering the development field, Winner spent many years in law career services, becoming one of the first lawyers in the country to work in this capacity.

Winner’s service to the Cleveland community has included participation with the Board of Visitors Committee for Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University, the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Bar Association, the Young Lawyers’ Section, and the Law Placement Association of Cleveland.
