Museum Joins #ColorOurCollections Week
Explore, color and connect with libraries, archives and cultural institutions! Organizations from around the globe are offering free coloring content based on their collections in honor of #ColorOurCollections week, launched by The New York Academy of Medicine Library last year. The public is invited to download, print, color and share their creations with #ColorOurCollections on social media.
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is joining the fun with coloring pages from its historic Blossom Expedition. The Blossom was a three-masted sailing ship named in honor of its benefactor, Mrs. Dudley S. Blossom. This expedition was the Museum's first scientific collecting mission, and it lasted from March 7, 1923 to June 4, 1926. All told, the explorers journeyed 20,000 miles and brought back 13,000 natural history specimens.
The illustrations below are from one of the field notebooks used by the scientists aboard the Blossom as they explored the islands of the South Atlantic. The scientists used Ridgway's Color Standards and Color Nomenclature to specify exact colors for each sketch. You'll see this "color by numbers" approach noted on many of the coloring pages below. Follow @CMNHlibrarchive and share your finished creations with #ColorOurCollections!
